33 One Institute

There is a lot of negativity revolving around the discussion of sexuality these days so why not bring in something a little more positive? This book is meant to be a reflection of our understanding and thoughts on a specific aspect of the history of sexuality to encourage individual journeys. In the spirit of this goal, I would like to highlight an organization that does work to educate in a similar manner. One Institute provides the resources to educate teachers to bring queer history into classrooms as well as tell the stories of members of the LGBTQ+ community. Not only that, they also bring forward the intersectionality that could exist within the identity of members of the community to also give them a voice. A way in which I believe this kind of work is reflected is the series of podcast interviews the organization participated in organizing between highschool students and activists. The one I would like to highlight is the interview conducted by seventeen-year-old Marbella with Dr. Mimi Hoang who is a psychologist as well as a bi+ activist. During this interview, Dr. Hoang talked about her experience coming to terms with her identity, the kind of support she received, and the work she does to support others who share a similar identity. By doing so, she taught Marbella  a lot about activism and encouraged her in her journey toward becoming this kind of leader in her community. You can find the interview in the link below.
