Introduction

Emily Hires; Nancy LePage; and Kolby Rousseve

This glossary is intended to support professionals who are seeking to understand Data Management and Governance  in the context of K-12 and higher education. The definitions included in this ebook provide a fundamental understanding of common Data Management and Governance terms. This glossary was co-created by education professionals and graduate students enrolled in Claremont Graduate University’s EDUC 448: Data Management & Governance course taught by Dr. Gwen Garrison, PhD during the Fall 2021 semester.

Though Data Management and Governance is commonly viewed as a separate field from education, this glossary seeks to bridge the gap between the two. As such, it is a resource for professionals who are new to exploring the interconnectedness between Data Management and Governance and Education, both in theory and/or practice. It is important to note that this glossary is not exhaustive and does not cover every aspect of Data Management and Governance and its intersection with Education. However, this glossary does provide a foundational understanding for professionals seeking an introduction to Data Management and Governance in Education.
