10 Mental Wellbeing throughout the Semester by Makana and Laura

Dear Listeners,

For our Capstone project, we wanted to speak on the metaphors of domination, organism, and machine, all relating to the institution we are a part of (the Claremont Colleges as a whole and more specifically the health services offered here). We chose to focus on the health services, regarding both physical and mental wellbeing, as we feel these are two things that are very crucial to the functionality and care for oneself. In the form of a podcast, we reflected on how the metaphors we have learned thus far in the semester relate to the resources available to us on campus. Another component that we wanted to incorporate was comments from our peers on how they view these resources. We included the interview aspect to our work because we found it interesting to understand how others responses also related to our metaphors and thought this gave a more well rounded and diverse perspective. We do not mean to put down these services in our podcast, rather just critically analyze our own experiences and how we found them to relate to our various metaphors. It is important to note that while our podcast had a more dissonant outlook on the SHS and other health services offered at the 5Cʻs, we would still like to show our appreciation for how much support and care that they do offer. Overall, it was nice to see how the things we have learned in Org100 relate to our lives beyond class and apply to the institution we are a part of. We would like to thank Professor Junisbai, our class, and the Claremont Colleges for helping us reframe and understand the organizations that we are a part of and the opportunity to learn. Thank you.

With love and appreciation,

Laura Wiederspahn and Makana Shipman
