Conclusion

As we conclude  Queer Feminist Theories: Prospects to Queer Futures, we wanted to thank you, the reader, for reading our work. This book has provided an incredible opportunity to explore the multidimensional characteristics of queerness and the many theories that encompass it. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Professor (Profe) Esther Hernandez-Medina for the guidance and support in this project.

The exploration of a diverse range of subtopics within queer feminist theory, through the lens of trailblazer scholars like Audre Lorde, Kimberle Crenshaw, Gloria Anzaldúa, Chandra Talpade Mohanty, Maria Lugones, and many others, allowed for a well-rounded exploration of current queer realities. In turn, promoting a wide array of potential queer futures.

In this three-part collection we explored queerness with regard to the body, race, technology, politics, activism, and decolnization. Part I, “Bodies, Sexuality, and Taboos,” called upon Lorde’s notions of the erotic as a source of empowerment and applied it to topics like sexwork, pornography, art, and ableism. Part II, “Bodies, Sexuality, and Technology,” utilized the frameworks of many 21st century feminist understandings of the human body and technology, exploring how the two converge and the former’s manifestations via the latter. Part III, “Black, Indigenous, and Decolonial Alternatives,” explored fundamental Black and Indigenous feminist ideas that served as the foundation for contemporary arguments about environmental justice, media studies, and medical biology. Finally Part IV, “Emancipatory Politics and Social Movements,” examined sociopolitical freedom and queer futurity via the frameworks of contemporary feminists.

Once again we want to express our gratitude to Profe Esther Hernandez-Medina, the Center for Speaking, Writing, and the Image (CSWIM), guest speakers and class peers for this amazing semester and collaboration. We enjoyed the process of creating this book, and hope you find our analyses useful for looking toward new prospects for queer futures.
